Dear MUN friends, devotees, colleagues, and enthusiasts,
Welcome to the website of Model United Nations of the Hague. The Secretariat of MUNOTH 2018 is currently working diligently on the organisation of the fifth edition of our conference. This year’s edition will take place between the 3rd and 6th of May, 2018. I hope to see many old, as well as new faces at MUNOTH 2018 in the international city of peace and justice.
Model United Nations in itself is an activity in which participants can develop their skills in important areas, such as public speaking, lobbying and writing for a policy-oriented audience. It provides participants with great insights into the procedures followed on an international level in order to find solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. All this is done within the general framework of the United Nations and other renowned international institutions.
Over the past five years MUNOTH has developed into a successful platform for international students to come together and interact with one another on issues of global importance. At Model United Nations of The Hague 2018, we will continue to strive to attain these objectives. Our six committees – the Human Rights Council, the Economic and Social Council, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Arab League, the Security Council and the International Court of Justice – ensure a diversity in both thematic and regional focus. This diversity will allow for you to really engage within a specific field of your interest. If reporting and/or photography is more up your alley, you will feel at home in our press team, the MUNOTH Observer. Besides the academics, MUNOTH 2018 has an appealing social program in store for you.
Model United Nations of The Hague 2018, will be held in the same weekend as both the remembrance of the dead, as well as, liberation day. Every year on the 4th of May, the Netherlands commemorates all those who have lost their lives in wars or peacekeeping missions during the Second World War. The day after this we celebrate the day which marked the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany. MUNOTH 2018 is a perfect exemplar of how far the world has come since this time and symbolizes the contemporary institutions that continue to facilitate the preservation of peace and justice.
I, along with the MUNOTH 2018 Secretariat, warmly invite you to join us in this experience. We are very much looking forward to meeting each of you in The Hague, the international city of Peace and Justice, this coming spring.
